To Ugg or not to Ugg

On my quest to discover new blogs and to ponder the purchase of a pair of gray Uggs, I stumbled upon something that has changed my life and I know will change yours - Polyvore. Am I the only one who hasn't found this yet? If you are unlearned in the ways of Photoshop and Illustrator as I am, this will totally make your day. You can make sets of photos from all over the web, in fashion like I have done here, or you could even do some virtual interior designing like How About Orange did here. C'est un triomphe.

This is a look that I basically rock every day. I'm predictable like that. And old, and set in my ways. Jeans, tank top, long cardigan, big old earrings and a comfy scarf. And boots. But my boots are not so comfy, so I'm thinking of some boots like this. Now that I can see the Uggs...should I buy the Uggs? I have been pondering this a long time. As much as my feet are dying to be in them, is it too Pamela Anderson in a cut off jean skirt?

Thriller night

It was a wet Halloween night, but we had a great time at the costume party. Here are the yard decorations at my house. Spooky.

Here are some highlights for you. My brother and I both dressed up as icons of our childhood - Pee Wee and Carmen Sandiego.
Here are the winners of the costume party with their trophies - Super Gay, the Harlem Globetrotters, Selene from Underworld (I had no idea what this was until the party, but she had a great costume), and the Christmas elf. There were so many great costumes. My friends are so creative.
Our hosts are have a photography business and a studio in their house, and an artist friend painted an amazing photo backdrop for pictures. Here's Evil Knievel and Johnny Cash.
The Mad Hatter, Santa, and a witch.
And the White Witch casting a spell on me.
Trick or treat, and farewell Halloween. Until next year!

What the kids are wearing

Mondays are half price day at the gigantic Last Chance Thrift Store. My brother and I made our way there to look for Halloween costume stuff. He found a fantastic gray suit and a red bow tie (can you guess the costume yet?). While he was trying on the suit, I noticed a couple of fabulous teenage girls trying on all of these very Blanche Devereaux-esque 80's floral print dresses. The kind you wouldn't be caught dead in. At first glance I thought they were also Halloween shopping, but they were discussing alterations - hemming the dresses short, wearing with leggings, add a button here or there. Such creative little DIY fashion mavens! Here are a few dresses from Forever 21 with the look they were going for.

Smart girls - buying dresses everyone else would pass by on half price day, do a few nips and tucks here and there, and voila. You've got the look for less. Granted, I am not exactly on the pulse of what the kids are wearing these days. Since I hit 30 this year it's harder and harder for me to keep up. This was absolutely adorable though. Perhaps something I could pull off with a cute cardigan, leggings, and boots. I'm not going to lie, I snuck over to the dresses to see if I could find some that they hadn't snatched up!

Halloween poll

Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday ever. As a craft-a-holic, I love to make my costumes. I have been Tina Turner, Carmen Miranda, Brenda Walsh, and Atlanta's own local celebrity Baton Bob (most people did not get that one until I told them who I was, and only an Atlantan would get it.)

This year, I've got a few ideas I'm tossing around, and I'm letting you help me decide. Vote in the poll on the side bar and let me know which costume idea you like best!
In the running are - Bjork in the infamous swan dress, Jem, Carmen Sandiego, Ikea (weird, I know, but cute), Jane Jetson, and Hitchcock blonde.

P.S. There are so many great costume ideas here at Coolest Homemade Costume!

And here is a little sampling of my costumes of yore (Tina Turner, Carmen Miranda, and Baton Bob)

New York Undercover

New York was grey, rainy, windy and cold. I have been told that autumn in the city is lovely, but sadly the weather did not cooperate. And most of the time it looked like this...
I did have some time to visit the Mothership (i.e. the gigantic Anthropologie on 5th Avenue). I'm not so sure they appreciate paparazzi in the store, so my photography had to be stealth and via cell phone. My undercover photos aren't fantastic, but I picked a few things that will inspire some home and fashion projects around my house.
This sweater is adorable and also way out of my price range. But it is basically a cardigan with a scarf through the extra button holes. I already have a scarf in mind...
This tablecloth was gorgeous - a cream color with different antique looking doilies around the edges. I'm not sure that I will do a tablecloth, but I spotted some really inexpensive doilies at the craft store, so this will be another project inspiration I think.
Please accept my apologies in advance - I do not like to preemptively do Christmas, and Halloween is my favorite holiday. But they had some things stashed in the back in preparation for a holiday display, and I want to steal this idea. The photo is grainy, but it is basically a tree made from glittery white paper. I don't think I will do one this big, but this could be a great, inexpensive, recycled holiday project.

The rest of my NYC adventure was mostly work, but I did have some time today to enjoy a few hours of sunshine and wander around Chelsea and the Meatpacking District with my B.F.F. All in all, a great trip!
